Description
This resin catch-pot is designed specifically for small to medium scale resin infusion projects. The catch-pot sits between your vacuum pump and the resin infusion project ensuring that any excess resin from the infusion is not drawn down the vacuum line and into the vacuum pump, preventing damage or total destruction of the pump.
The catch-pot has a see-through lid so that you can keep an eye on resin accumulating inside the catch-pot (in catch-pot liners) and includes a barb-type fittings to allow easy connection of the vacuum line and an easy-to-tighten fitting for the resin line from your infusion project (hoses not included).
Each catch-pot is vacuum tested before shipping.
Fitting/Thread Information
The lid is connected to the vacuum pump via the 8mm brass hose-tail barb connector using a 8mm ID Silicone Vacuum Hose.
The vacuum bag or resin infusion project is connected to the catch-pot by through the black plastic gland nut. The gland nut is also designed to accept a 9mm OD hose, such as our 6mm ID Clear PVC Hose.
To ensure a permanent, reliable and airtight seal the lid of our catch-pot comes with the vacuum gauge, gland connector and hose-tail barb (push) fitting already screwed and bonded into place. Although not designed to be removed, the vacuum gauge and 8mm hose-tail barb both screw into the lid using a 1/4 BSP thread.
We also sell the Glycerine-Filled Vacuum Gauge, 6mm ID (9mm OD) Clear PVC Hose, 8mm ID Silicone Vacuum Hose and Hose-Tail Barbs separately.
Resin traps come complete with glycerin-filled vacuum gauge, fittings for use with 1/4″ vacuum tubing, brass ball valve and instruction manual.
Capture excess resin and protect your pump! Measuring range of vacuum gauge:0-29.25inHg
Unique Catch Port Design: An additional hose can be installed at the port inside the tank to facilitate accurate collection of resin.
5 Feet Reinforced Vacuum Hosing Connect Directly To Vacuum Pump 1/4″ SAE.
Silicone gasket to be used over 10,000 times without deterioration.
FRP Vacuum Resin trap
One key piece of equipment that is important to understand is the Resin Trap.
1)A resin trap is an airtight container placed within the vacuum tubing circuit between the laminate and the pump to catch any excess resin before it can enter and destroy the vacuum pump.
2)When set up properly, the vacuum tubing will flow out of the laminate and connect directly to the resin trap.
3)A separate tube will then leave the resin trap and connect to the vacuum pump
Note: Before using a resin trap, wax the inside of the tank with mold release wax to ensure easy removal of the hardened resin.
  1. A) During VIP, vacuum pressure is being used to draw resin into the laminate. In many cases, resin will flow completely through portions of the laminate while still filling dry spots in another. This is normal and is no cause for alarm except that resin will frequently enter the vacuum line while continuing to infuse resin.
  2. B) With a resin trap, all excess resin will be collected in the trap, while air is still allowed to flow back to the pump. If the part is large and significant resin flow into the vacuum line is expected, any number of resin traps may be placed in sequence. As soon as one is filled, the resin will overflow into the next one.
Protect your pump with this 2 Quart stainless steel resin trap/catch pot. This pot goes in between your pump and your part to create a break in the line for the resin to drop down into instead of going into your pump and destroying it. This item is needed for the vacuum infusion process. Simply use mold release on the inside of the pot before use. Once the excess resin cures, then flip it over and with a quick smack, the resin puck will fall out and it is ready to use again. This chamber comes with a silicone gasket designed specifically for our systems. The gasket itself is reversible which means you can expect twice the life out of your seal. The simple gasket design allows you to set it on the pot quickly for an instantaneous seal. No need to be precise, the gasket has a large enough flange where you can quickly get it close and your pot seals right up. The seals are rated at a maximum temperature of 392° F. All of the suppliers for the kits are ISO 9000 Certified to ensure you receive a high quality product that will last. Our high quality clear acrylic lid lets you see inside the container so you know the second your container is almost full.
Vacuum Catch Pot with Gauges. This pressure vessel is a must have for any composite work with vacuum. This unit has many benefits that will help your project work smoothly. This tank will act as a vacuum accumulator, which will allow you to hold a larger amount of vacuum. This works much like an air compressor, but in reverse. You would not buy an air compressor without a tank on it. The main purpose of this tank is to act as a catch or resin trap that will go in between the part and the vacuum pump, which ensures no resin is drawn into the pump. This tank has two fittings on it. One side connects to the part and the other side to the pump. This unit features industrial quality quick release fittings, as well as liquid filled gauges to increase accuracy. This pot also has a vacuum relief valve on it, which allows you to fine tune your vacuum to the desired pressure, if needed.
Pot will accommodate a 5 quart mixing tub for easy cleanup
